Martin Abraham is professor for Sociology and empirical research at the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg. He studied social sciences at the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg, where he earned his Diploma in 1990 and his doctoral degree in 1996. He completed his habilitation at the University of Leipzig in 2002. Prior to joining the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg in 2007 he held professorships in sociology at the Ludwig-Maximilian-Univerity of Munich until 2005 and at the University of Berne until 2007.

His research interests comprise sociology of economics and organizations with a special focus on labor markets, sociological theory, family research, social inequality and empirical methods. He published or edited several books, various articles in peer reviewed journals, and numerous book chapters. Moreover, he is an ad hoc reviewer for journals in Germany and the US as well as for various Research Institutions like the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft and the Swiss National Science Foundation.

His research has been supported by institutions like the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (German Research Foundation) as well as other public and private institutions.
